Read on for more details regarding Music Alive 08:

Strong contingents of New Zealand’s finest artists come together in February 2008 to create not only a lot of noise musically but to also create noise regarding a huge problem our youth face.

Amongst many young people in this day and age, they are met with continual struggles; growing for many of us has never been easy and we can all relate to the hardships of our pre-teen years. However, the stresses of these days, with the unfortunate rites of passages such as acceptance and credibility, are taking a toll on a younger generation of Kiwi’s.

Throughout New Zealand, teenagers are suffering, in silence, from depression, brought on by teenage anxiety. Without a proper course of action, 10% to 20% of teenagers can suffer from mental illnesses in later life, however the immediate effects are more worrying; many of these suffering turn to suicide as a ‘way out’.

The statistics for depression and suicide amongst teenagers has peaked to the point this at times seldom discussed problem has become epidemic. Music Alive ‘08 is an event to raise the awareness of this problem with some of New Zealand’s biggest and brightest names in music coming out to not only champion the cause, but to highlight such problems should not be frowned upon.

With artists such as The Tutts, Donald Reid, Redline, Faster She Said, Sonic Altar, Ben Hazlewood and The Symphony of Screams; the all ages event will not only entertain, but also inform ages young and old about the plight the teenagers of this nation currently face and what we can do about it.

Youthline will benefit from the exposure and profit from this event. Youthline provides a community based support system for families and youth alike – offering counseling (one on one and via phone) and education programmes.

We also have several special guest appearances lined up through the day – including Nicky Watson.
